Obituary of Erna Falkenberg

Erna was born in Romania on April 27, 1925.  She and her parents moved to Germany in 1939.

Erna married Waldemar in April 1949.  They dreamed of a better life and left all family and the familiar behind and arrived in Halifax in January 1952.

They settled in Osoyoos and farmed until 1979 and then moved to Kaleden.  Erna worked hard all her life - on their farm, sorting fruit in the packing house, washing laundry for a small motel, and eventually became the head of the chambermaids in the Best Western in Penticton. She did not know English at all but did learn to speak it very well. She loved looking after her flowers and especially loved her roses.  She loved fishing.  She loved dogs and carried treats with her to share.  She loved her needlework and has left us with many of her beautiful projects.  She was so generous all her life with material items and her time and would help any way she could.

She is survived by her children Adelle & Allan Petty, Walter & Lynne Falkenberg, her grandchildren Pam & Gunter Marutt, Christina & Michael Raftery and her great grandchildren, Tyler & Alexandra Marutt, and Abigail & Mason Raftery.

Erna slipped away from us on May 7, 2023.
