Obituary of Michael Patrick Flanagan
With heavy hearts, the family of Michael Patrick Flanagan announce his passing on December 13, 2024 at the age of 82. He was a loving husband to Lois, father to Dana, Dallas and Sam, grandfather to Kayla, Kassidy, Kellen, Ayla and Charlie and great grandfather to Miller.
Mike was born and raised in Stavely, Alberta. His love of hockey was what brought him to Quesnel in 1967 to play with the Kangaroos. Meeting and marrying his wife Lois in 1969, he built a career and family in Quesnel and remained a fixture in the hockey community, playing with the Old Timers and faithfully attending the games of his sons and grandson.
Mike retired from his career as a lumber trader at West Fraser in 2007 but kept himself busy, devoting time to golfing, carpentry, and taking drives in his convertible with his faithful dog next to him. Most of all, Mike enjoyed spending time with family and working on his ranch. He was a builder who loved working with his hands and taught himself to do almost any job that needed to be done. As someone who took pride in a hard day’s work, he accomplished much in his lifetime and always shared this value with his children. He was serious about his career, his home and his family but had a warmth and sense of humor that was well-known and appreciated by those who were close to him. He wore his heart on his sleeve and if you knew him, you knew what he cared about. Mike was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
There will be a celebration of life in the summer of 2025, further details will be shared closer to that time. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Aziz, Dr. Smith, Dr. Nevill, the members of the lab and hospital staff at GR Baker for the care Mike received during the past year and to their dear friends and family for their support during this difficult time.
