Obituary of Richard William Fandrey

Its with great sadness we mourn the loss of Richard William Fandrey on Friday, June 21, 2024.  Richard passed peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Richard was predeceased by his mother Hedwig, father Wilfred, step mother Ester and brother Stanley. 

Richard is survived by his sister Carol (Jerry), wife Gail, children Mark Fandrey (Delmis), Michelle Gascon (Robert) and daughter Catherine Willson (Donald), and grandchildren Brandon, Gael, Ashley (AJ), Jennifer, Kimberley, Misty, Amie and Sydney as well as great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Richard was born in Vancouver on November 25, 1938 to Wilfred and Hedwig Fandrey.  He married Gail in 1959 where they made their home in Richmond, BC.  Richard worked as a Millwright at Silvertree in Vancouver, BC until they moved to Quesnel, BC in 1975.  There  they built several homes and raised their family.  Richard worked as a bricklayer by trade but enjoyed working on anything and everything.  In his later years he enjoyed puttering in his garage on endless projects; he was always working on something.   Richard enjoyed fishing, camping, and tending to his beloved raspberry patch and checking on his apple trees. 

He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly; always providing a safe harbour within his heart.  Richard enjoyed spending time with his many friends over the years, always quick to help anyone at anytime.  In the latter stage of his illness he was supported by his homecare nurses, Tiffany and Kerri who provided immeasurable amount of compassion and care. Richard enjoyed those visits and he lite up whenever they visited.  Richard gave us a lifetime of memories that we will hold in our hearts forever.  His unwavering love and friendship touched many lives over the years and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.

There will be no service, however in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Kordyban Lodge in Prince George, BC where Richard stayed while he underwent his cancer treatments at the Cancer Clinic.
