Obituary of Gertrude May Wootten
Gerturde "Trudie" Wootten passed away on Saturday, May 18 at 2:10 am at Dunrovin Park Lodge in Quesnel BC at age 81.
She was born January 5 1943 in Victoria, B.C. to Herb and Winnie Smith.
She grew up in Victoria and was active in sports (Grass hockey, bowling and swimming) Guides, Sea Rangers and many other school groups. In 1964 she married David Wootten and started her family of 5 children. The family moved north in 1967(ish) first to Houston B.C. then to Quesnel in 1971.
Trudie worked on the family farm raising children, a variety of animals and food for all. She was an excellent artist, skilled at drawing and painting and brought that talent with color and design into her gardens.
In her later years she volunteered with Kersley 4H club and the Salvation Army soup kitchen.
The last 5 years she has struggled through the progression of her glaucoma with vison loss and Alzheimer's disease with progressive memory loss. Now at rest she is survived by her children Allan (Kerry) Wootten, Mike (Debbie) Wootten, Christy Wootten (Vern Richardson), Steven (Heather) Wootten and Karen Wootten, her sister Rose Hawthorne, 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents Herb and Winnie Smith and her husband of fifty years David Wootten.
Her service will be held at Clayton's Funeral Chapel June 7th, 2024 @ 11:00am followed by interment in the Quesnel City Cemetery and tea held at Clayton's Funeral Chapel directly after burial.
