Obituary of Joanne Armes

With profound sadness the family of Joanne Armes announce her passing on March 29, 2024, ending her brave battle with cancer. Joanne passed away peacefully in the hospice unit at Dunrovin Park Lodge with family by her side.

Joanne was born November 27, 1959 in Prince George, B.C. to Douglas and Catherine (Campbell) Archambault. She was the fifth of seven children.

Joanne grew up in Williams Lake where she met and fell in love with Michael Armes, also of Williams Lake, they were married in 1979. As a young married couple Joanne and Mike enjoyed several outdoor activities, especially hunting, fishing and camping. In a tragic turn of events Michael was diagnosed with a brain tumor which took his life in June 1983, Joanne was expecting their first child at the time. Joanne relocated to Parksville where she lived with her parents this is where Joanne's only child Jamie was born in November 1983. 

Outside of work Joanne was involved in several sports. In her young adult years, she played softball, wallyball and curling. Joanne had a few different jobs over the years but she eventually settled into an upper management job with a large restaurant chain. 

As her parent’s aged Joanne was a great support to them, with her help they continued to live fully and independently. In 2021 she retired and moved to Quesnel to be closer to her daughter and her grandchildren.

Joanne leaves behind her mother Catherine, her daughter Jamie (Ryan), grandchildren Hayden and Maisie, her brothers Donald (Carol), Melvin (Shannon), Alan (Kathleen) and sister Renee.

Joanne is predeceased by her Husband Michael, father Douglas and her brothers Dwayne (Bev) and Bruce.

A celebration of life is planned for early June, details will be announced at a later date.

The family also wishes to send special thanks to G R Baker Memorial Hospital and the Hospice unit at Dunrovin Park Lodge.
