Norma Festerling

Obituary of Norma Isabelle Festerling

With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Norma Festerling. She left us five days before her 94th Birthday, at her beloved Quesnel home on October 9, 2023.  Norma passed peacefully with her children near and supporting her last few days with us.  Many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren had visited recently as well.

Norma was born in New Westminster in 1929.  She was predeceased by her husband Oscar in 2006 and her sister Maureen.

Oscar and Norma met in Osoyoos in the early fifties where they were both working. They made Quesnel their home in 1953 and raised their four children in the community. They had lived on Walkem street for over 55 years.

For many years Norma worked at the Royal Bank in Quesnel.  In later years they wintered in Arizona.  Norma loved sports and supported Oscar as he played baseball in Quesnel.  Minor hockey and baseball were a huge part of their lives as their children grew up and enjoyed success in these activities.

Norma was an incredibly inquisitive soul and a lifelong learner who always knew the latest in news and sports.  Her children and grand children enjoyed conversations with her on world events and sports. And the busy lives of her large family were a source of great joy to her.

In later years she would watch her grandchildren as they played professional hockey in Germany and travelled there to see them play. She also traveled through the states for minor baseball.

She is survived by children Lesley (Andy), Don, Brian (Karen), Doug (Kathy), eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. As well as her sister Heather and brothers Bruce and Bill.

With thanks to Dr. Ali and the nurses and staff at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital. And with special thanks to her friend, helper, and companion Melissa Gonzalez.

Norma will join her husband  Oscar at Tranquility Gardens in Quesnel

Forever in our hearts
