Obituary of Victor Waldemar Goertzen
Vic Goertzen Sr., surrounded by family, passed into the presence of his Lord on March 29, 2023.
Vic was born on May 26, 1932, the oldest of 11 children, in Rosthern Saskatchewan to George and Olga Goertzen. He grew up on the family farm until the family moved to the Fraser Valley in British Columbia when he was 16.
Vic met the love of his life, Juanita Stoutenberg, in Hope in 1953. They were married on September 14, 1956. Living in Vancouver, Vic was employed at Hayes Trucks, working on the assembly line and eventually being promoted to a supervisor position. The couple welcomed three children into their lives, Vic Jr, Shelley, and Kevin.
In 1974, Vic decided it was time for a less stressful life and moved his family to Quesnel, where he worked for West Fraser Mills until his retirement in 1997. In 1975, at the age of 43, Vic made a decision to accept Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Saviour. He faithfully attended and served at First Baptist/Northstar Church.
Vic had many talents and hobbies. He could fix anything put in front of him and learned to build computers, refurbishing many to give to those in need. He was an avid ham radio operator, enjoyed fishing, loved photography and nature.
Vic is predeceased by his parents, George and Olga, brothers Harry and Walter and sister Laura.
Vic leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Juanita; his children, Vic Jr. (Lynn), Shelley (Richard) Lindstrom and Kevin (Connie); his grandchildren, Shannon (Tommy) Novak, Ryan Goertzen, Megan Goertzen, Lisa (Jason) Johnson, Kimberlee (Jonathan) Freckleton, Brianne Lindstrom (Brandon Pohynayko), Taylor Goertzen, Mitchell Goertzen and Gregory Lindstrom; his great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Karson and Parker Novak, Kaylee Torraville, Kobe and Kali Johnson, Teagan and Evie Pohynayko, and Bodhi Freckleton; as well as many other extended family members and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at Northstar Church (301 Northstar Rd.) at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Vic’s memory to BC Children’s Hospital.
We hold onto the hope we have in Jesus that we will see Vic again one day in heaven! Forever loved, forever missed!
