Obituary of Douglas Eric Sargent
Douglas Eric Sargent, born May 23, 1946 in Prince Rupert B.C., died peacefully at home on March 6, 2023 in Quesnel, B.C. after a long and courageous struggle.
He is survived by his mother, Natalia, his spouse Kelly, his three sons Paul (Kim), Jody (Christine) and Jason (Nata), his seven siblings (Terry, Richard, Dennis, Pat, Ernest, Barbara, Camilla), his six grandchildren (Nicholas, Maegen, Anabel, Madison, Elliot, Ben), and two stepchildren Shannon (Lee) and Jeffery.
He is predeceased by his father, Eric Sargent, and his brother-in-law Glen Richards.
Doug was raised in Quesnel after Eric and Talia moved here in 1948 from the Hazelton area. He was the second of eight children and he was an adventurous youth, often leading by example.
He worked much of his adult life in construction, first as a tradesman (carpenter) in the 1960’s and then as a general contractor with his company Sargent Douglas & Co. Ltd. until the 1990’s.
In 2000, he moved to Calgary and worked as a superintendent for CANA Construction until he retired in 2012, after which he returned to the Cariboo to pursue mining interests.
Doug always had a love of the outdoors whether it was skiing at Troll, canoeing at Blackwater or Bowron, motorcycling, hunting, fishing or just walking the riverfront trail with his dog Dakota. We miss him, our grief is lessened only slightly by our memories of him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday March 24, 2023 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Quesnel, followed by a graveside service for family at the Quesnel Cemetery. A reception will be held at 12:00 p.m. noon at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 262 Kinchant St.
