Obituary of Nixon Edward Schumacher

Nixon ( Shorty ) Edward SCHUMACHER

Shorty slipped away quietly on January 8th, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Shorty was born July 22, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandy. His daughters Leslie and Sherry. Four grandchildren, Brandon, Riley, Justin and Melissa. Six great grandchildren, Ryder, Gabriella, Mariah, Kesler, Mason, and Harley. Sisters, Dolores and Ruth, brother Lorne, and several nieces and nephews.

Shorty was man of many trades, having worked on the oil rigs in Alberta, driving grader in southern Alberta and hauling hay out of the United States to Cloverdale, BC.

In 1970 Shorty packed up his family and moved to Quesnel when he got a job working at the airport.  Around the same time, he and Sandy acquired 110 acres on the Blackwater Road to turn into Elkhorn Ranch. After a few years he purchased his first Logging Truck and started Shor San Trucking. They built a log home, started a small herd of cows and then over the next 40 years expanded and grew both the herd and their property. When Shorty was diagnosed with cancer, they decided to downsize, selling the cows and all but 30 acres.

Shorty and Sandy spent the better part the last 10 years traveling and fishing with good friends.

There will be a celebration of his life held at the Quesnel Legion, February 18th 2023 at 1:00. All who wish to attend are welcome to come.
