Obituary of Mary Jane Mackay

Mary Jane Mackay, 81, of Quesnel, BC, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022 at GR Baker in Quesnel surrounded by all her family.

Mary was born on June 1, 1941 and grew up in Arbroath, Scotland.  She was much loved by her mom Rosalie Thom.  She knew she wanted to be a Nurse from a young age and attended nursing training in Scotland.  She went on to have a daughter, Jackie & meet the love of her life Neil Mackay, in Scotland. Mary, Neil & Jackie then made their way to Canada in 1969, with Neil (son) arriving in Canada a few years later.  Mary worked at many long term facilities in the Lower Mainland providing compassionate end of life care to so many. 

Mary was more affectionately known as Granny or Granny Mac.  She delighted in each of her grandkids and was always seen at a ball, soccer, or hockey game enthusiastically cheering.  She had a deep love and enthusiasm for each one and was their biggest supporter.  She passed this enthusiasm on to so many through her love of sports, volunteering at Dragon Lake School, and being Granny Mac to so many friends of her grandkids.  Granny was full of enthusiasm, sparkle, and passion. 

Mary is survived by Jackie (Al), Alynn & Beth MacDougall, Neil (Heidi), Neil Iain, Emily, Sydney, & Abbey Mackay.  She is reunited with her mom Rosalie and her husband Neil Iain (big Neil).
