Obituary of Mary Morgenstern

With heavy hearts the family of Mary Morgenstern announce her peaceful passing at the age of 99 years on 01 June 2022 at Dunrovin Park Lodge.

Mary was born in Grayson, SK 12 October 1922 to parents Josef and Katherine Kopetski, the eldest of eight children, she was destined to be a caregiver at the early age of nine (9), helping her mother with younger siblings and around the farm.

Mom married Alvin Morgenstern 01 August 1939 and began a lifelong love affair with her family. They moved to the Okanagan from Loon Lake, SK in the summer of 1946, finally settling in Quesnel in 1954, making a home in the West Fraser community and raised eight children over the next 40 years. She welcomed grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren with open arms and cherished each one with her undying love.

Mary was a homemaker for the majority of her adult life, raising children, gardening, canning, baking, she always had a plate of delicious treats and a hot cup of coffee, whenever company would come calling. She worked as a housekeeper for a brief time, but her true joy was her yarn, knitting/crocheting and sewing was a huge part of mom’s life, she always had a blanket, cushion or pair of slippers to give away to remember her. Her home was always open to people who instantly became family, a tiny woman with a giant love for everyone she met. Mom saw the good in everyone and always treated people like an old friend, with kindness, love and respect.

Mary is predeceased by Alvin, her husband of 52 years in October 1991 and her children:  daughter; Edith Werbecky, sons; Gerald, Ervin & wife Phyllis. She is also predeceased by her parents, Josef & Katherina Kopetski, sisters & brothers in-law; Kay & Ernie Meise, Lena & Alec Chore, Roy Throssell, sister-in-law, Anna Kopetski, brothers and sisters in-law; Bill & Cecilia Kopetski, Joe & Irene Kopetski. Everyone Mom met in her 99 years was a favourite, especially the young children.

Deeply missed by her children; Phil (Barb) and family, Lorry Morgenstern, Lorne (Linda) and family, Melvin (Sharon) and family, Joan (Mel) Frank and family, Patricia Reistad and family as well as grand children, great grandchildren and great greatgrandchildren, siblings; Jim (Grace) Kopetski, Frank (Esther) Kopetski, Emma Throssell, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, ‘honorary adopted family members’, Albert (Diane) Phipps and family and Jim (Judy) Young and family, as well as long-time family friends over the years, too many to list.

Mary’s family will lay her to rest in an intimate ceremony at Tranquility Gardens.

Forever in our Hearts
