Lorraine Vandeweghe

Obituary of Lorraine Doris Vandeweghe

It is with incredibly broken hearts that we announce the passing of our Mom, Lorraine Vandeweghe, on February 28, 2019.

Lorraine fought a hard, and very brave, battle with ovarian cancer. Throughout her lengthy hospital stay, she continued to show her amazing character, never giving up, never complaining and even in her worst moments, always thinking of others and continuing through each day, postive and with a sense of humour.

Lorraine was an avid walker, runner, gardener, and loved to snowshoe in winter, and did so up until her diagnosis in mid November, 2018.

Mom traveled to many places in the world, some of her favourites included Belgium, Italy, Maui, Australia and Arizona, she even hiked the Grand Canyon in her 70's.

She was the most caring and giving Wife, Mom, Grandma, Sister and Friend. She leaves behind son, Kirk, his wife Amanda and their two daughters Kristen and Kate. Daughter Yvette and granddaughter Keana.
She was the eldest of 6 children, leaving her siblings Dan, Joyce, Jeanette, Garry and Murray to carry her memory.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Herman on August 8, 2006, after 45 years of marriage.

Lorraine' s greatest joys were her family and many close friends. She absolutely loved the outdoors and was the most energetic and fit lady for 77 years old. She was known to many at the farmer's market, selling her smoked trout grown on her farm that she and Herman began in 1976. She was referred to fondly as the "fish lady"  in the beautiful dresses.

We would like to thank Dr. Alhaddad and the nurses who did an amazing job of balancing good care, compassion and never forgetting to add in a smile and much needed humour.
Thank you Ryan, Jeremy, Taya, Val, Selena, Jeudi, Kit, Trisha (aka "Nicole" because she's our friend), Karen Keis, Olivia, Stacey, Crystal, Kerri, Dwayne, Terri, the chemo nurses and Melody.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Society or the Quesnel Palliative Care Association.

No service at Lorraine's request.
