Obituary of Thordur Jonasson

Thordur (Ted ) Jonasson

It is with great sadness that the family of Ted Jonasson of Kersley, BC announce his passing.

Ted passed away peacefully in GR Baker memorial hospital on Sept 30, 2018.

Following cremation, the family will hold a private memorial at a future date.

Ted leaves behind his loving wife Audrey and children Michael, Robert and Debra. He is preceded in death by his son Dwayne who passed away in Nov. 1994.

Ted was born on a farm near Wynyard Sask. on Dec 16, 1931 to Magnus and Margret Jonasson. He married Audrey (Forest) in Buffalo Narrows Sask on Aug. 01, 1959. From 1959 -1975, Ted worked for the Dept. of Natural Resources as a conservation officer in Northern Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories conducting aerial surveys, wildlife and fishery management and working on forest fire suppression operations.

He loved the Northern landscape and he had many fond memories of his work for which he said was “ sometimes harsh and difficult but also felt at times like a paid vacation” Ted had a deep respect for the trappers and people of the North country that he interacted with. His knowledge of the landscape made him a valuable asset on search and rescue operations, and led to his finding of the overwintering site of the early explorer, Louis Primeau, for which he was credited. Ted moved his family to Quesnel in 1975 and worked for West Fraser Mills until his retirement.

He was a sports fan and often took in the annual baseball tournament in Grand Forks with Audrey. An avid golfer, he enjoyed spending time on the course with his sons and his friend Gill. He loved to play with his grandkids and was very proud of each and every achievement they made.

Ted also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. We will always remember his smile, his gentle nature, and his ability to tell a wonderful, often hilarious story. He will be deeply missed by all and will always be in our hearts.
