Obituary of Fred Boychuk

Frederick "Fred" Ernest Boychuk

September 19, 1938 ~ March 29, 2019

"80 Years"

The oldest of four children, Fred was born at the Calgary General Hospital to Donna and Fred Boychuk.

Educated in Bowness, Alberta, but left school before graduating, realizing he knew more than the teachers! Parental guidance suggested a stint in "The Forces" might well be the ticket to success, but the Navy (1955-57) could not remove the burr under the saddle, so he bid farewell 2 years later.

Life served Fred a huge variety of employment profiles -- and never afraid of hard work, he tackled each with genuine confidence, later acknowledging "he didn't know how much he didn't know!" From dairy farming, cattle ranching, rodeoing, working at the Firestone Plant in Calgary or logging in Seward, Fred ultimately answered a call to the "Bush" located in the back country of Wells, BC from 1970 ~ 2014. This is where he ran several traplines, guided for big game, placer mined and hauled logs. The love he had with nature was unparalleled and so apparent to anyone who crossed his path.

Fred was incredibly stubborn and opinionated, hard hitting when challenged, but also the best storyteller ever, a gold medalist in retaining facts. Cut from the cloth of a rebel, he led his life making choices excatly to his standards, never quite perfecting the meaning of two important words;      "Thank You"!.

His handbook did not allow one to turn down a good fight or follow rules, he made up his own and enjoyed or suffered the consquences.

Health challenges dictated a move to Quesnel in 2014, where he spent his remaining years.

Predeceased by his parents Donna and Fred Boychuk Sr. and youngest brother, Gerry.

We are confident his balance sheet reflects the time he occupied space here and the judge at the gates will punch his time card.

"Happy Trails, Freddie"
