Obituary of Dorothy Anne Manulak
Dorothy Anne Manulak, 74, of Quesnel, BC, passed peacefully away on July 28, 2024, after an ongoing battle with cancer.
Dorothy was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 24, 1950. She was the oldest of five children to Leo and Rose Atherton. She grew up in Vancouver and went to Windermere High School. After graduation, she worked for Eaton’s and BC Cancer.
Dorothy met John Manulak and they were married in 1971. Dororthy and John became parents to Debra and Robert shortly thereafter. The family moved several times including Matsqui Prairie, Misson, and Kitimat before settling in Quesnel until 1992 when they moved to Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. They returned to Quesnel in 2000 to be caregivers to John’s mother ‘Granny’ and his ‘Aunty’.
Dorothy and John engaged in various organizations during their time in Quesnel while raising their children. These included Rotary, Maple Park Alliance Church, and Sea Lions Swim Club.
During their time on the Sunshine Coast, Dorothy worked at various employers including Westel and Upstream Family Medicine. She became a ferry commuter and met lifelong friends who were always up for adventures.
In Quesnel, Dorothy worked at BC Forestry and along with “Edie” were known as the front desk fun team. Dorothy made lifelong connections with her forestry family. She went out of her way to keep people comfortable and cared for. She was a rock for all when life was challenging.
A runner, a fisher woman, a curler, and party planner extraordinaire, Dorothy was a fun, giving, caring, and compassionate wife, mother, and friend. She always made herself available to others without thoughts of herself.
Dorothy is survived by her husband John, children; Debra (Bruce) Robert (Linda); Grand daughters; Abby, Emma, and Maggie. Her Aunt Dot and sisters; Mary (Robert), Linda (Tom), Cathy (Murray). She is predeceased by parents; Leo and Rose and brother Ed (Tracy). Dorothy became “Aunty Dorth” to multiple nieces and nephews, including Shara and Krystal, Jason, Lori anne and Michael, Kimberly, David, Scott and multiple great nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. H Smith – Dot’s #1, Obanye- her #2, the crew at Chemo Care, local ER Staff, community nursing, Dr. Miller, and the PG BC Cancer Radiation teams. A special thank you to Quesnel Hospice, for the care you provided in her last days.
