Obituary of Leslie David Helgerson
Leslie David “Dave” Helgerson passed away with his family at his side on May 18, 2018 of a worn-out, much-used heart. He was born in Ladysmith, BC on July 12, 1953 to Leslie and Elizabeth Helgerson, the second of three children. He was predeceased by his father and mother and a 1969 Chevy Nova.
In 1980 he married his true love, Valerie Helgerson (Plante) and together they had three children, Candice, Talia and Zack. Dave loved many things including the Vancouver Canucks (a love, hate relationship), Greg Norman, the Minnesota Vikings, the Toronto Blue Jaysand above all, his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and friends and vacationing in San Felipe, Mexico.
Dave was a hard worker and a very proud and loving family man. Dave’s example of love and acceptance is something to be modelled after. Always sharing his love of music, one of his favorites was Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”. He also took pride in the ponytail he couldn’t wait to grow back once he retired. After struggling with alcohol, Dave was proudly sober for 5 years before his passing. His family and friends couldn’t have been more proud of his accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Helgerson, his daughters, Candice Helgerson (Martin), Talia Helgerson (Rick) and his son Zack Helgerson (Andrew), his sisters Gloria Helgerson and Lorraine Helgerson (Ross). He is also survived by two grandchildren, Dominick and Daymon Ratz along with nieces and nephews he held dear.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A truly heartfelt thank you to the team at Jacobs Medical Center in San Diego, CA.
A celebration of life will be held at the Anglican Church Hall at 465 Kinchant Street in Quesnel, BC on July 7th, 2018 at 1pm.
