Obituary of Stella Marie Bartels

In loving memory of

Stella Marie Bartels

1939 – 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Stella Marie Bartels announce her passing on February 21, 2024.

An invitation is extended to all who knew and loved her to attend a memorial service on Saturday, March 2 at 1:00PM at Clayton’s Funeral Chapel. The service will be followed by interment at Tranquility Gardens, Quesnel Cemetery and tea at Clayton’s Funeral Chapel.

Stella was born in Makwa, Saskatchewan on April 7, 1939. She was the 2nd child in a family of 11 children. She moved to Quesnel, BC in March 1957. Her first job in Quesnel was at the Mule Train Café and that is where she met the love of her life, Fred Bartels. She married Fred on November 14, 1959. After marriage the couple moved to Williams Lake where their 2 sons were born. In 1963 the family moved back to Quesnel where their daughter was born. Quesnel is where she lived the rest of her life.

Stella was a very loving, caring, strong, positive, hard-working woman who always put others first. She never shied away from anything, whether it be managing a mobile home park, running a motel or growing, harvesting and preserving a very large garden. Stella was passionate about baking. The amount she could bake in one afternoon was astounding. Her family and friends enjoyed eating it as much as she did baking it. Her house was always clean, her door was always open and she could feed a crowd at a moment’s notice. Stella’s family was the most important thing in her life. She had a very large extended family and as with her immediate family, she was always there for each and every one of them.

Stella is survived by her husband Fred, son Brian (Judy), daughter Susan (Kevin), daughter-in-law Krista, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters, one brother and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son Rick, her parents and 4 brothers.

A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jawanda and the nurses and staff at G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital.
